What you need to know before you submit your OH&S information to a contractor management database agency
In a perfect and fair business environment, a company would be awarded a contract based on a competitive price, good quality work, and a good safety record. The reality however, is that contract awards are usually based on more than price, quality and safety.
In the past few years many companies and government agencies have implemented a service provider/contractor prequalification process. One of the requirements in the process, is that interested service providers/contractors must first register and achieve a sastisfactory score through a contractor management database agency before they can submit a bid proposal and possibly be awarded a contract.
Contractor management database agencies e.g. ISNetworld, ComplyWorks, PICS, etc. will evaluate a service provider's/contractor's occupational health and safety information to determine if they meet the minimum requirements of the company or agency awarding the contract.
How Can Carsam Consulting Help?
One of my core responsibilities while working for one of the largest employers in Canada over the last 9 years, was to review and verify the occupational health and safety information that a service provider/contractor submitted to a contractor management database agency was accurate and current.
The review and verification was conducted on all service providers/contractors that had achieved a satisfactory score through a contractor management database agency. If the information was determined to be not accurate or current, then that particular service provider/contractor would not be allowed to submit a bid proposal.
Conducting an internal service provider/contractor prequalification review and verification, is becoming a common practice in many companies and government agencies.
